Ans : The Postmaster was a fat and amiable man.

8. Give a brief description of Dhekiabari tea garden.(2)
Ans : Dekiabari Tea Estate is an hour far away from Mariani railway station. The garden has a gravel road passing through it. On both side of the road are acre upon acre of tea bushes, all neatly pruned to the same height.

9. What was the distance from Valli's village to the nearest town? What was the fare for a trip from Valli's village to the town? (1+1=2) 
Ans : The distance from Valli's village to the nearest town was six miles.

          The fare for a trip from Valli's village to the town was thirty paise.

10. Give a description of the bus in which Valli travelled. (2)
Ans : It was a new bus. It's outside painted a gleaning white with some green stripes along the sides. Inside, the overhead bars shone like silver. Directly in front of Valli, above the windshield, there was a beautiful clock. The seats were soft and luxurious.

16. Give a description of the fight between Custard dragon and the Pirate.
Ans : Custard the dragon snorted like an engine. He clashed his tail like irons in a dungeon. With a clatter and clank and a jangling squirm, he jumped on the Pirate as a robin preys as a worm. He fired two bullets. They did not hit. He gulped some grog from his pocket flagon. At last, Custard the dragon ate the Pirate every bit. 鹿鹿

17. (a) How does Ausable manage to
       make Max believe that there is a
       balcony attached to his room? (5)
       Ans : Ausable created a convincing
       story about a balcony to dube Max
       whom he found in his room while he
       was away. Ausable room was on the
       sixth and top floor. If anybody falls
       down from that height, he would
       hardly survive. 菉

       When Max said that he did not
       know about the balcony, Ausable
       replied that it was not his balcony and
       it belonged to the next apartment.

       He told Max that his room used to be
       a part of a larger unit and the next
       room through that door used to be
       the living room and that had the
       balcony. He  added that the balcony
       extended under his window.

       He told that Max could get on to that
       from the empty room two doors
       down. Further he added that
       somebody got down through that in
       the previous month and the
       management promised to block that.

       It served a big purpose. To escape
       from the police, Max turned
       the doorknob, pushed with his left
       hand to free himself from the sill and
       dropped to the balcony. And then, as
       he dropped, he screamed once, shrilly.

      (b) How did the young lady trick
       Horace Danby? (5)
       Ans : Horace was ready to open the
       safe he found in the drawing room of
       the house at Shotover Grange. Then
       he heard a voice from the doorway of
       a lady who was saying that she had
       heard him from the top of the house.

       She pretended to be the wife of the
       house owners. Horace thought of
       running away. But the lady told that
       she would telephone the police. He
       said that he would cut the telephone
       wires.

       She looked at him seriously and
       asked if he would hurt her. He
       suggested her to forget that she had
       seen him. The lady raised her voice to
       frightened him.

       He smiled and told her that he was
       not a man who threatened the
       society. He stole only from those who
       had a lot of money and said he hated
       to go prison.

       She came over to him, shaking her
       head, said that she had always liked
       the wrong type of people. She said
       that she had forgotten the number to
       open the safe.

       Horace promised to open it. And at
       last he opened it within an hour and
       gave the jewel to her. Later on he
       discovered that that the lady was not
       the wife of the house owner.

18. (a) How and why did Griffin come to
       the village of Iping? Why does Mrs.
       Hall find him eccentric?(3+2=5)
       Ans : London was a crowded place.
       Griffin wanted to get away from there.
       So, he took a train to the village of
       Iping, where he booked two rooms at
       the local inn.

       The arrival of a stranger at an Ann in
       winter was in any case an unusual
       event. A stranger of such uncommon
       appearance set all tongues wagging.

       Mrs Hall, the landlord's wife, made
       every effort to be friendly. But Griffin
       had no desire to talk, told her that his
       reason for coming to Iping was a
       desire for solitude.

       He didn't wish to be disturbed in his
       work. Besides, an accident had
       affected his face.

       Satisfied that her guest was an
       eccentric scientist, and in view of that
       fact that he had paid her in advance.

       Ans : The young lawyer met Bill at thr
       railway station. He was about forty,
       red faced, cheerful and thick about
       the middle. His working clothes were
       dirty and well-worn, and he had a
       friendly manner. The young lawyer felt
       at once that he wanted to find a man
       named Oliver Lutkins.

       Bill replied that he had seen Oliver
       Lutkins about an hour ago. He said
       that he was a hard fellow to catch.
       The lawyer told Bill that he wanted to
       catch the afternoon train back to the
       city.

       Bill then told him that he had a hack
       which he wanted to bring so as to
       track down Oliver Lutkins.

       The hack was brought and the fare
       was fixed at two doller per hour. In the
       mean time, Bill was able to win
       confidence of the young man. Then
       they started their ride in search of
       Lutkins.

Between consist and present participle , always "in" is used.

But no. C is wrong. It happened due to typing fast. It should be "on."
